In the summer of '08, a group of our scouts and scouts from surrounding troops, took a trip into the Canadian Wilderness. The preparation began months before the actual date with the scouts taking long hikes with their backpacks and learning how to pack everything they needed into a 5 gallon bucket for the 10 day canoe and hike trip. They canoed for a total of 100-125 miles while portaging when necessary.
